Salvon Ahmed 2021 Outlook: Will Ahmed Shine in the Miami Sun?
4 years agoA lot of unlikely things have happened in 2021: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian split up, the Olympics are scheduled to happen this summer, and the Dolphins didn't draft a running back. Myles Gaskin must have taken lessons from Fitzmagic last year because how he managed to pull this off still has me stumped. But maybe it wasn't Gaskin who said the magic words, maybe it was someone else... Enter Salvon Ahmed. The undrafted rookie managed to get some good press after signing with the 49ers. Unfortunately, that was short-lived after he had two fumbles and a bad drop in training camp, leading to the team waiving him before the season. However, the very next day he was grabbed by the Dolphins and he managed to make the team, likely never expecting to get any meaningful playing time. As fate would have it, Gaskin took control of the lead role in the Dolphins backfield following a Gaskin injury and recorded a 60% or greater snap share in three of the four games he started. With this, he managed two truly impressive games: 21 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers in week 10, and 23 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown against the divisional Patriots in week 15. There is some uncertainty regarding Gaskin's status as the lead back, and outside of him, the #2 spot is very much up for grabs between Ahmed and former Rams plodder, Malcolm Brown. Ahmed is a sneaky grab at the end of drafts, as he could very well make a name for himself in camp.
