Salvador Perez Will Be An Expensive Catcher
7 years agoSalvador Perez set a new career high in home runs for the seventh straight year, and his batting average rebounded to help make him one of the most valuable catchers in the game. Unfortunately, even though he finished fifth amongst catchers on ESPN’s Player Rater for 2017, that was still only good enough to rank 207th overall. Perez’s home runs have been bumped up by converting to a full fly ball approach as well as an increase in his HR/FB rate, but his home park helps keep the number tamped down to some extent. Expect Perez to continue his power hitting ways, but expect his price tag to be quite dear. Owners would be better served passing on Perez for a cheaper alternative.
