Ryan Preece had a tough time in practice with a best time that placed 33rd. However, the Stewart-Haas Racing driver slightly improved to 29th in qualifying. The No. 41 Ford hopes to gain positioning on Sunday like he did at Sonoma. Preece started 30th there but wound up in 18th by the end of the race. Getting tires late might not help here much either as the track should be manageable. Preece was only 1.428 seconds off of Kyle Larson's best lap. He was more than two seconds off in practice times despite running more than 10 laps. The Stewart-Haas Ford keeps struggling going in and coming out of turns on road courses. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
