2 years agoBaltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 8-5 victory over the Cleveland Guardians. Mountcastle has 11 home runs and 38 RBI entering play Wednesday. He should continue to see regular at-bats for the Orioles, but it's becoming difficult to ignore his rather large platoon split this season. Mountcastle has a .311 average with seven home runs against left-handed pitching, compared to a .201 average with four home runs against right-handed pitching this season. There doesn't seem to be any immediate threats to Mountcastle's playing time, but the Orioles are a contending team and will be looking to add players at the trade deadline. Falling into a short-side platoon would be disastrous for Mountcastle's fantasy value if he can't turn it around against right-handed pitching.--Nick Shlain
