Ryan Blaney The Championship Favorite Despite Qualifying Blunder
3 weeks agoAnalysts and sportsbooks alike have all pegged Ryan Blaney as the driver to beat when it comes to the NASCAR Cup Series Championship this weekend. In practice on Friday, the No. 12 Ford was a standout in all speed categories, ranking fastest in five-, 10-, and 15-lap average in addition to posting the fastest single lap. In qualifying on Saturday, though, Blaney got loose during his run and ended up just 17th-fastest, which means he will have some work to do once the green flag flies on Sunday. That's no cause for concern, though. Blaney started back in 15th in the Championship race last season and ended up coming home second while grabbing his first series title. He also started back in 16th here at Phoenix in the first race this season and finished fifth when it was all said and done. Blaney is currently on a six-race streak of top-five finishes at this race track and there's no reason to think he won't be able to add another this weekend. He makes for a great DFS pick this weekend despite the high price tag ($11,200) on DraftKings.
