Rashaad Penny 2019 Outlook: A Strong Handcuff Option
6 years agoWhen the Seattle Seahawks selected running back Rashaad Penny in the first round back in 2018, most expected he would immediately take over as their No. 1 running back. However, 2017 seventh-rounder Chris Carson stepped up and took hold of the job, finishing the season with over 1,100 rushing yards. Penny was more or less an afterthought, carrying the ball 85 times for 419 yards and two touchdowns. He did most of his damage in Week 10 against the Packers, when he filled in for Carson and carried the ball 12 times for 108 yards and a score. Besides that, Penny didn’t top 50 rushing yards in a single game, making him virtually unplayable outside of the deepest formats. Coach Pete Carroll made it clear that they want Penny to be more involved in the offense this season, and he believes strongly that players make big strides from Year 1 to Year 2. However, as long as Carson is healthy, he will be the top dog in Seattle. Penny makes a very solid handcuff option, as full-time duty in Seattle is a great gig with their run-heavy offense and a surprisingly efficient offensive line. Target him around Round 10, particularly if you are a Carson owner, and reap the benefits if he gets the chance to be the No. 1 option.
