Raisel Iglesias 2023 Player Outlook: Draft Value Still Enticing Despite IL Stint
2 years agoAtlanta Braves relief pitcher Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) had an overall successful yet unusual fantasy season in 2022. The 32-year-old started the season with the Los Angeles Angels and served as their closer, racking up 16 saves with a 4.04 ERA in 35 2/3 innings pitched. He was then traded to the Atlanta Braves, picking up only one save given Kenley Jansen's role but delivering an improved 0.34 ERA with 15 holds in 26 1/3 IP. Iglesias was in line to start the season as the team's closer; however, he will start the season on the 15-day injured list with low-grade right shoulder inflammation. Shoulder issues are always concerning for pitchers, but it sounds like Iglesias potentially avoided a long-term injury. Since the injury news, Iglesias' draft position has fallen from 67th to 115th, putting him behind Camilo Doval and Clay Holmes. Iglesias' previous ADP seemed low relative to other closers, and his new draft value still seems like a relatively good deal with the news baked in, assuming the injury proves to not be serious. Iglesias should be a high-end fantasy closing option once he returns, so fantasy managers who can take on the risk will be getting a good bargain.
