9 months agoPhil Mickelson had a great week at the Desert Classic, but fell one stroke shy of picking up his 44th career victory on the PGA Tour. After an unexpected opening-round 60, Mickelson led or co-led the majority of the tournament and he entered Sunday's final round in great position. "Lefty" fired a final-round 69, but it wasn't enough to hold off a charging Adam Long who closed with a Sunday 65. Long birdied the 72nd hole to finish one shot clear of Mickelson and Adam Hadwin. For the first time in 29 years, Mickelson will not play in next week's Farmers Open. The 48-year-old will skip the Torrey Pines event in an attempt to lighten his schedule. He will tee it up next in the Waste Management Phoenix Open in two weeks. --Joe Nicely - RotoBaller
