Paul Richardson 2019 Outlook: A Risky Proposition
6 years ago2018 was not a great season for Paul Richardson. In seven games he only managed 262 yards and two touchdowns on 20 receptions. In his first season after coming to Washington, he expected a lot more. As did Washington. How 2019 goes for Richardson will depend a lot on the quarterback situation. With Smith not returning for this season, the quarterback position will fall to either Case Keenum or Dwayne Haskins. Despite his one good season in Minnesota, when surrounded by talent both on offense and defense, Keenum is not the answer. We will have to wait and see on Haskins, but even if he is the answer the surrounding talent is poor, and this will not be the year he will show out.
Richardson and his slight size of 6’ and 170 pounds is not built to be anything, but a deep go-route option, making him likely to only catch 40 to 50 balls a season. On a low volume offense like Washington? a team who will use Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson to pound the ball? These numbers could go even lower.
Richardson's ceiling could be high but his floor is also fairly low. This means there is no true value in him in standard redraft leagues, no matter where you can get him in drafts. If things change and there are injuries galore in the preseason, he might be of interest.
