6 days agoNew York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton is expected to remain a starter despite the addition of first-round pick Malik Nabers, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. Duggan notes that while Slayton has expressed frustration about his current contract status, the pass-catcher is expected to open the 2024 campaign as New York's No. 2 receiver behind Nabers. Such an alignment would push Jalin Hyatt into the No. 3 role, at least to start the year. Isaiah Hodgins, Isaiah McKenzie, and Gunner Olszewski would round out the depth chart. With uncertainty at quarterback and increased competition in the passing game, Slayton isn't a very enticing name for the 2024 fantasy football season. In all likelihood, he'll open the year on the fringe of rosters and waiver wires in most 12-team redraft formats.Source: Dan Duggan
6 days agoBoston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the team's Game 5 win versus the Miami Heat. The five-time All-Defensive Team guard closed a quiet offensive series by shooting 3-for-5 from the field on Wednesday. Holiday helped keep the opposing guards in check with his stellar defense, but he only averaged 7.8 points on eight shot attempts per game in the series. Derrick White becoming a bigger offensive force in the backcourt limits Holiday's fantasy ceiling. However, Kristaps Porzingis (calf) missing several more games in the next round could be a fantasy boost to improve Holiday's points and rebounds in a more challenging series.Source: ESPN
6 days agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher prospect AJ Smith-Shawver threw five strong innings for Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday. The righty allowed no runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five. The 21-year-old now has a 5.09 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season with 21 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched. Ranked as the Braves' top prospect, he'll surely make an appearance in Atlanta this season after making his MLB debut in 2023, starting five games for the Braves while recording a 4.26 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and a 20:11 K:BB. Fantasy managers should scoop him up once he does get the call, as he should be a solid starter on a team that produces plenty of run support.Source: MiLB.com
6 days agoBoston Celtics guard Derrick White had a great game with 25 points, five rebounds, and two assists in Game 5's win over the Miami Heat. The 29-year-old tied Jaylen Brown for the most points scored as Boston dominated the game from start to finish. White has stepped up the whole series by averaging 22.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in the five games. The Celtics treat White as their third offensive option behind Jayson Tatum and Brown in most games without Kristaps Porzingis. White's stock continuing to rise, and he'll be a strong fantasy option in the next round due to Porzingis (calf) missing more games.Source: ESPN
6 days agoMiami Heat forward Nikola Jovic had eight points, seven boards, and four assists in Wednesday's meeting with the Celtics. Unfortunately, his efforts weren't enough, as Boston closed out the series in five games. At any rate, the 2022 No. 27 overall pick picked things up toward the end of the 2023-24 campaign. He ended the year by averaging 12.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in eight games in April. It appears Erik Spoelstra could give Jovic regular playing time next season, assuming he remains in Miami. However, the 20-year-old has a way to go before earning the trust of fantasy managers.Source: ESPN
6 days agoMiami Heat guard/forward Duncan Robinson (back) finished with just two points in Wednesday's loss to Boston. Robinson admittedly wasn't healthy for this series. On a positive note, he finished the regular season by averaging 12.9 points, a significant upgrade from the 2022-23 campaign. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old has had issues staying healthy over the last few seasons, which is something for fantasy managers to consider moving ahead. There's also a chance Robinson won't be in Miami next season, considering the Heat have been trying to move him for years. Yet, a change of scenery could do him good, especially if he gets more minutes elsewhere.Source: ESPN
6 days agoBoston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum delivered 16 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists in the team's Game 5 series-clinching win over the Miami Heat. Tatum did not have to showcase his usual scoring excellence with the game out of hand early, but he still produced a double-double in just 32 minutes. The 26-year-old averaged 39.5 minutes per game in the series before tonight's game to show that the blowout impacted his fantasy output and time on the court. Kristaps Porzingis (calf) missing more games could mean more fantasy production from Tatum in the next round.Source: ESPN
6 days agoMiami Heat forward Caleb Martin finished with 10 points in Wednesday's loss to the Boston Celtics. He added four boards and one assist. The 28-year-old was one of Miami's top rotational pieces during the regular season. He averaged a career-high 10 points. Unfortunately, he was limited to 64 games due to injury. That's been the theme for Martin throughout his career. He also isn't a consistent fantasy producer. Assuming he remains in Miami, he may battle for minutes with Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic throughout the 2024-25 campaign. Martin's injury woes over the years are another reason fantasy managers may look the other way.Source: ESPN
6 days agoMiami Heat guard Tyler Herro struggled in Wednesday's loss to the Boston Celtics. While he had 15 points, he shot a rough 6-for-19 from the field and 1-for-8 from downtown. With Miami's year finished, Herro will get some much-needed rest. He ended the regular season by averaging a career-high 20.8 points with 5.3 boards and 4.5 assists. Unfortunately, he was limited to only 42 games because of various ailments. Without question, the 24-year-old can be a potent fantasy performer. However, his inability to remain on the court will significantly lower his fantasy value heading into the 2024-25 campaign. The Heat might also make some roster moves during the offseason, so Herro's name will likely be mentioned in several trade scenarios.Source: ESPN
6 days agoBoston Celtics forward/guard Jaylen Brown scored 25 points in the team's Game 5 victory over the Miami Heat. Brown had his third game of the series with at least 20 points to help the Celtics advance to the next round. Boston had a relatively easy night on the job by taking control early and never letting up. The 27-year-old contributed to this dominant outing by shooting 11-for-19 from the field to lead the way. He also added five rebounds and two assists. Boston will see Brown having a higher ceiling in the second round, with starter Kristaps Porzingis (calf) expected to miss several more games.Source: ESPN
6 days agoMiami Heat center Bam Adebayo had a team-high 23 points in Wednesday's loss to Boston. He added six assists, five rebounds, and two blocks. Although Miami's year is finished, Adebayo can hold his head high. While he regressed slightly in some statistical categories during the regular season, he improved in others, especially with his career-high 35.7% shooting from behind the arc. The Heat will need to make adjustments to the roster this offseason if the club hopes to make another deep postseason run. Yet, Adebayo will remain one of the team's top producers on both ends of the floor regardless of any potential changes, so he'll likely be a top-30 fantasy option heading into the 2024-25 campaign.Source: ESPN
6 days agoThe Dallas Cowboys expect cornerback Trevon Diggs (knee) to be ready for the start of training camp this summer after he tore the ACL in his left knee during a Sept. 21 practice. He had surgery at the end of October. Fellow cornerback DaRon Bland, who set an NFL record with five interceptions returned for touchdowns last year, is expecting his teammate Diggs to make a full recovery. "I mean, a lot of people are not expecting what Tre is gonna come back with," Bland said. I know what Tre is gonna come back with. It's going to be something dangerous. Can't wait." The 25-year-old former second-round pick in 2020 out of Alabama as an All-Pro in both 2021 and 2022 and racked up 14 touchdowns (two returned for touchdowns). Providing he's fully healthy this fall, he should once again be a coveted defensive back in IDP fantasy formats because of his ball-hawking abilities.Source: Pro Football Talk - Charean Williams
6 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow (hand) is set to make his next start on six days of rest this Saturday against the visiting Atlanta Braves. Glasnow dealt with cramping in his hand in his last start last Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays but is good to go for a showdown against the Braves this weekend. In his first season with the Dodgers, the 30-year-old has been as advertised, going 5-1 with a 2.72 ERA (2.75 FIP) and 0.93 WHIP with 12 walks and a league-high 53 strikeouts in 43 innings over his seven starts. Despite dealing with cramping issues in his hand in Toronto last weekend, Glasnow picked up the win against the Jays by giving up just one earned run, walking three and striking out nine in six innings for his fifth win of the year. He's a must-start in fantasy this weekend despite facing the tough Braves lineup.Source: SB Nation - Eric Stephen
6 days agoSan Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth slapped a go-ahead grand slam in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds, propelling his team to victory with four RBI. Cronenworth's round-tripper came in the seventh inning, taking Reds right-hander Fernando Cruz deep to right field for a 400-foot blast. On the season, the 30-year-old righty masher is slashing a healthy .265/.343/.470 with five homers, seven doubles, 24 RBI, and 17 runs scored in 137 plate appearances (31 games) for the Friars and remains a solid mixed-league fantasy asset in San Diego's high-scoring lineup. A three-game set against three right-handed pitchers and the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks begins on Friday. In 13 games against Arizona in 2023, Cronenworth hit a strong .313 (15-for-49) with a homer, seven RBI, and six runs scored.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove logged a quality start in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds, hurling six innings of two-run ball on four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts for a no-decision. The Friars didn't grab the lead until a four-run seventh inning, which prevented Musgrove from netting the win, but it was a much-needed bounce-back effort after the hurler was knocked around for seven runs in his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 31-year-old right-hander holds a 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 36:13 K:BB across 41 frames (eight starts) for San Diego this season following Wednesday's excellent showing, and he'll look to improve on those numbers in a tough matchup during Tuesday's scheduled start on the road against the Chicago Cubs. In two appearances (11 IP) against the Cubs since 2022, Musgrove is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 14:4 K:BB.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoColorado Rockies manager Bud Black says outfielder/infielder Kris Bryant (back) is hoping to soon resume baseball activities. Bryant has ramped up his activity level and is getting closer to swinging, but he's still not yet cleared to resume all baseball activities. With that said, Bryant has no timetable for a return from a strain in his lower back and should be considered out indefinitely. Considering the 32-year-old former All-Star was slashing just .149/.273/.255 with one home run, two doubles, six RBI, and three runs scored in 55 plate appearances (13 games) for the Rocks before heading to the injured list, fantasy managers can find better stashes on waiver wires. Elehuris Montero is working as Colorado's everyday first baseman in the meantime, but he's not producing enough at the moment to warrant consideration outside of the deepest NL-only leagues.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers optioned starting pitcher Landon Knack back to the minor leagues on Wednesday. Although the team called up right-hander J.P. Feyereisen in a corresponding transaction, the move likely signals that Walker Buehler's (elbow) next start is set to come with the major-league roster. Knack, LA's No. 13 prospect for 2024, showed plenty of promise during his first taste of big-league action, logging a 2.81 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, with 11 strikeouts over 16 innings (three starts). His 5.54 FIP probably means he was due for some regression at some point, though. The 26-year-old right-hander could be back with the Dodgers at some time later this summer if former top prospect Gavin Stone doesn't pick things up.Source: Fabian Ardaya - The Athletic
6 days agoWashington Nationals outfielder Lane Thomas (knee) is still working on decreasing stiffness and swelling in his left knee. It certainly doesn't sound like Thomas is currently participating in baseball activities, which means that his stay on the 10-day injured list is all but certain to extend past the minimum stint. The 28-year-old right fielder was slashing .184/.250/.253 with two home runs, 10 RBI, six runs scored, and 11 stolen bases over 87 at-bats (22 games) for the Nats, and fantasy managers should be preparing for him to be sidelined with a left MCL sprain likely until mid-to-late May. Veteran Eddie Rosario is filling in for Thomas in Washington's outfield on the strong side of a platoon with Alex Call, but he's gone just 6-for-68 in 22 outings and can be ignored on waiver wires unless his bat starts to wake up.Source: MLB.com
6 days agoTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Trey Palmer had a good rookie season in 2023 considering his draft status and with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in front of him, but he has far from secured the No. 3 spot in an offensive system that is sure to be 11-personnel heavy in his second season. However, Palmer should be a lock for the active roster out of training camp, as should rookie Jalen McMillan, who the Buccaneers spent a Day 2 pick on in a deep receiver class. Palmer and McMillan are expected to battle for the No. 3 job in training camp this summer. With Godwin expected to move back into the slot in 2024, Palmer may struggle to match his rookie numbers (39 catches, 385 yards, three touchdowns), especially if McMillan impresses.Source: Pewter Report
6 days agoDallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic (knee) has been officially upgraded from probable to available for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Clippers. The Slovenian superstar said Wednesday morning that his right knee is "not good," and he has also been dealing with an illness lately, but Doncic is ready to play through pain. Despite battling health issues, Doncic has averaged a massive 43.3 minutes in the 2024 playoffs and should be heavily involved again as Dallas attempts to grab a 3-2 series lead in Los Angeles.Source: Dallas Mavericks PR
6 days agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks scratched catcher Gabriel Moreno from Wednesday's lineup against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. There's no word yet from the D-backs as to whether or not Moreno is dealing with an injury, but Tucker Barnhart is now catching left-hander Jordan Montgomery and batting ninth on Wednesday. Until more is known, consider Moreno day-to-day with a day off on Thursday ahead of Friday's series opener at home versus the visiting San Diego Padres. The 24-year-old former top prospect is slashing a weak .238/.344/.325 with six extra-base hits, 13 RBI, and nine runs scored as Arizona's primary backstop during the 2024 regular season.Source: Jesse Friedman

6 days agoIndiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton (back) remains on the injury report ahead of Game 6 against Milwaukee on Thursday. He's been battling back spasms lately, but the Pacers have kept him in the lineup. It's been an up-and-down series for Haliburton, who is averaging 15.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 9.2 assists. After posting a double-double and a triple-double in back-to-back games, the Pacers point guard has been limited to only 10 assists across the last two contests.Source: NBA Injury Report
6 days agoHouston Astros manager Joe Espada said on Wednesday that starting pitcher Cristian Javier (neck) is an option to start Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. A lot will depend on how the next few days go for Javier, who threw off the mound ahead of Wednesday’s game versus the visiting Cleveland Guardians as he recuperates from discomfort in his neck. If Javier comes away with no setbacks in his throwing progression, it looks like he won't need a brief minor-league rehab assignment before the Stros activate him from the injured list. The 27-year-old star right-hander owns a 1.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 18:11 K:BB over 23 1/3 innings (four starts) out of Houston's injury-riddled rotation, and his return would almost certainly send struggling rookie righty Spencer Arrighetti back to the minor leagues.Source: Chandler Rome - The Athletic
6 days agoNew York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (knee) said he's been cutting and "doing everything" as he rehabs from a torn right ACL. His plan remains to be ready for training camp this summer. In addition to a torn ACL, Jones missed time with a neck injury and ended up starting just six games after having a career year in 2022. In his six starts, Jones didn't have much of a chance behind a sieve-like offensive line, throwing for 909 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions. The 2024 season could be a make-or-break year for the 26-year-old former first-round pick, although the G-Men didn't take another QB in this year's draft. Jones now has an elite wideout to work with in Malik Nabers, but he also lost do-it-all running back Saquon Barkley to free agency. Jones is an injury question mark with a low floor and ceiling as a QB2 in fantasy.Source: ESPN New York - Jordan Raanan
6 days agoMilwaukee Bucks point guard Patrick Beverley (oblique) will likely continue to play through injury on Thursday against Indiana. He's listed as probable with an oblique strain for Game 6 of the first-round series. Beverley has just had his strongest outing of the matchup, leading by example at both ends of the floor in Tuesday's 115-92 win. He recorded 13 points with 12 assists, four rebounds, one block, and two steals.Source: NBA Injury Report
6 days agoNew York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (illness) was removed from Wednesday's game versus the visiting Chicago Cubs due to flu-like symptoms. Lindor went 0-for-1 before veteran infielder Joey Wendle replaced him at shortstop during the third inning. It exacerbates a poor start to the season for Lindor, who's slashing .195/.278/.356 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 16 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 118 at-bats (30 games) for the Mets. The 30-year-old All-Star switch-hitter should be considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Cubs, but he should be able to get back into New York's lineup if he's feeling better by then. Check back ahead of Thursday's action to see whether or not Lindor will need his first day off of the season.Source: Tim Britton - The Athletic
6 days agoMilwaukee Bucks forward Khris Middleton (ankle) is considered probable for Thursday's Game 6 against Indiana. Middleton has been playing through an ankle injury in the series and is expected to do so again. Despite tweaking his right ankle in Game 2 and missing some practice time, Middleton has put together a three-game double-double streak. He's averaged 32.0 points and 10.7 rebounds during the stretch.Source: NBA Injury Report

6 days agoMilwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard (Achilles) will likely remain out for Game 6 against the Pacers on Thursday. He's again listed on the injury report as doubtful. Malik Beasley has started back-to-back games with Lillard unavailable. The former Laker has gone for 38 points across the two games with very impressive 8-for-13 shooting from three-point range. Patrick Beverley is also counted on a lot more offensively. He recorded a nice 13-point, 12-assist double-double in Tuesday's Game 5 win.Source: NBA Injury Report
