Legal Sports Betting in New York
The Empire State launched its mobile sports betting in early January 2022, making it the most populous state with online sports betting available. Sportsbooks live in the state are Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, BetMGM, PointsBet, Wynn, and Resorts WorldBET, with each offering its own brand of betting and plenty of bonus offers for bettors to take advantage of.
New Yorkers aged 21 and over (and those visiting the state!) can enjoy sign-up promotions for new accounts at these reputable sportsbooks. Read on for more information on New York’s market and history.
New York legalized sports betting at its commercial casinos back in 2013 in anticipation of any changes to the federal legislation. Following the repeal of PASPA, New York’s sportsbooks went live in July 2019 but online wagering was still banned. After several failed attempts, online wagering was approved by the state as nine brands came into possession of online sports betting licenses.
Four of these nine brands were ready to launch across the state on January 8, 2022, joined shortly thereafter by BetMGM on Jan. 17. Then we saw PointsBet go live on Jan. 24, Wynn on Feb. 3, and Resorts WorldBET on March 3. That means Bally Bet is the final licensee yet to go live in NY, but the major players are active.
The New York sports betting market is enormous, with the eight active mobile sportsbooks taking in $1.638 billion in wagers for March 2022.
How to Sports Bet in New York
STEP ONE) Download a legal, licensed, and safe sportsbook app or visit their website.
As of now, eight sportsbooks meet the legal, licensed, and safe criteria: Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, BetMGM, PointsBet, Wynn, and Resorts WorldBET. Be aware of others from the black market trying to advertise to New Yorkers and claiming to be legal. And be sure to utilize the great promo offers through RotoBaller’s promo links.
STEP TWO) Register with the promo code and create your account
Head into the app or website, which you’ll be redirected to from our link, and register an account. You’ll need to provide personal information such as your name, date of birth, address, email, and more sensitive information like the last four digits of your social security number. This helps the sportsbook verify your identity and follow Know Your Customer protocols, which are part of the rigorous standards for holding a license.
Keep an eye out for the Promo Code field when signing up and be sure you grab our code. This nabs you the best promo code in the game.
STEP THREE) Make a deposit or play with the risk-free bets
With a verified account, you are ready for action. You can either build a bet slip with risk-free bets if applicable at that sportsbook, but most likely you are opening the cashier to make a deposit. This is also where plenty of the promotional value appears in the form of a deposit match. Check the terms of your deal and decide how much to put in. Remember to gamble responsibly!
While each sportsbook will have its own unique blend of payment methods available for deposit and withdrawal, you can usually count on some combination of major credit cards such as Visa and Mastercard, online bank transfers, and PayPal.
STEP FOUR) Place your bets!
Your identity is confirmed and your bankroll is at the ready, so it’s time to wager. Navigate the menus to the sport of your choice and fill your bet slip out. The bet slip is where you’ll be able to enter the wager amount, see the odds in one place, and your potential payout.
In-Person New York Sportsbooks
While New York’s legalization and launch of mobile/online sports betting is a welcome sight, the Empire State has had commercial sportsbooks operating since 2019. But they’ve been upstate, far from the densely-populated cities. There are four commercial state-licensed casinos and three Indian tribes that are licensed for lawful gaming in New York: The Seneca Nation of Indians, the St. Regis Mohawks, and the Oneida Indian Nation of New York.
