4 days agoDetroit Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson is getting his first day off of the season on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Torkelson made it 23 games before getting his first day of rest in 2024, and he's currently hitting .231/.311/.319 with a league-leading eight doubles, no home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored in 104 plate appearances. Mark Canha is getting the start at first base and will hit third for the Tigers, while Riley Greene is the designated hitter and batting leadoff against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. It's pretty concerning that Torkelson, the former first overall pick in 2020 out of Arizona State, has yet to clear the bases so far this year. Neither Canha nor Greene have faced Pepiot in their careers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoThe NFL announced on Tuesday that their review into potential tampering from the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons is ongoing and will not conclude this week. That said, any potential punishments will come after the 2024 NFL Draft and will not affect this year's draft order. The Falcons are being investigated for allegedly making contact with quarterback Kirk Cousins before they were allowed to, while the Eagles are facing similar circumstances with running back Saquon Barkley. The Miami Dolphins lost their 2023 first-round pick over attempts to acquire quarterback Tom Brady and coach Sean Payton in 2019 while they were active members of other organizations. That said, Atlanta and Philadelphia could be handed similar punishments in future drafts if they are found to have engaged in illegal tampering.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Ian Rapoport

4 days agoMilwaukee Brewers right-hander Tobias Myers is making his major-league debut on Tuesday and is starting on the mound against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road. Myers was called up by the Brew Crew last week for pitching depth, but he never got into a game, so this will be the 25-year-old's big-league debut. Before his call-up to Milwaukee, he posted a strong 1.62 ERA with 22 strikeouts and seven walks in 16 2/3 innings at Triple-A Nashville. Given all of the injuries to the team's starters, Myers has a real shot to stick in the Brewers' rotation for a little bit if he impresses the club on Tuesday. He was originally drafted in the sixth round by the Baltimore Orioles in 2016 and has gone 5-20 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in his four seasons at Triple-A.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Milwaukee Brewers

4 days agoFree-agent quarterback Logan Woodside signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday, the team announced on X. The former Toledo signal-caller was selected by the Bengals in the 2018 NFL Draft, but he was waived before his rookie season began. He then signed with the Tennessee Titans but lasted just a few weeks with the organization before spending time with the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF. He made his way back to the NFL with Tennessee for three and half years before one and a half years with the Atlanta Falcons. The 29-year-old has completed just four passes for 34 yards in his professional career, so it'd be a surprise if he beat out Jake Browning for the QB2 job behind Joe Burrow.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Cincinnati Bengals On X

4 days agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley (illness) and second baseman Jonathan India (illness) are both still out on Tuesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies due to illnesses. Fraley has been out of the starting lineup since last Friday, whileread more...

4 days agoThe Texas Rangers activated catcher Jonah Heim from the bereavement list on Tuesday and optioned catcher Sam Huff to Triple-A Round Rock after Sunday's game in a corresponding move. Heim will be back behind the dish to catch right-hander Dane Dunning on Tuesday while hitting eighth in the batting order against the visiting Seattle Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. The left-handed-hitting backstop has a .300 average with a home run and four RBI in 20 career at-bats against Gilbert, so fantasy managers will surely want to get him back into their starting lineups right away. Heim has been decent at the plate to start the year, too, going 19-for-72 (.264) with three home runs, 15 RBI, one stolen base and seven runs scored in 18 games played.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: Texas Rangers PR
Share:
4 days agoThe Denver Broncos have picked up the fifth-year option on Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Surtain II, meaning he will remain under contract through the 2025 NFL season. Since being selected by Denver with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama, Surtain has earned two trips to the Pro Bowl and one first-team All-Pro honor. In 50 career games, he has racked up 187 tackles (150 solo), one forced fumble, seven interceptions, and 36 pass deflections. The Broncos are in an interesting time for the organization with Sean Payton at the helm, and the roster needs major reinforcements. However, they have their true No. 1 cornerback locked in for at least the next two seasons.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Adam Schefter
Share:
4 days agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (concussion) was activated from the seven-day injured list on Tuesday and is serving as the designated hitter and batting third in the order against the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Ben Lively. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox placed catcher Tyler Heineman (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 22) with a right-hamstring strain. O'Neill missed the minimum time on the IL after suffering a mild concussion during a collision with third baseman Rafael Devers last week. Fantasy managers should be ecstatic to get the 28-year-old outfielder back into their lineups, as he had a 1.21 OPS and seven home runs in his first 61 plate appearances before his head injury. O'Neill has never faced Lively in his career.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: The Boston Globe - Pete Abraham
Share:
4 days agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers (knee) remains absent from the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the hosting Cleveland Guardians. Pablo Reyes is getting the start at the hot corner and will hit in the nine-hole against Guardians right-hander Ben Lively, making him a poor sleeper option for DFS lineups. The Red Sox were hoping the Devers could return on Tuesday after a scheduled off day on Monday, but that won't be the case. The 27-year-old could need a trip to the injured list now that he'll be missing his fifth straight game after suffering a bone bruise on his left knee. It's a gamble if you've already inserted him into your weekly fantasy lineup. On top of his injury, Devers is just 9-for-48 (.188) so far in 2024 with two home runs and five RBI.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MassLive.com - Chris Cotillo
Share:
4 days agoThe NFL reinstated Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. from his year-long suspension on Tuesday for violating the league's policy on gambling. Rodgers was with the Indianapolis Colts when he was suspended on June 29 but was released by the team later that day and signed with the Eagles in August. Rodgers said bets were made from his account for people who lived in Florida, where online sports betting at that time remained illegal. At the time of his suspension, Rodgers had placed more than 100 bets, including some on Colts' games. In his three seasons in Indy, Rodgers had three interceptions and 10 passes defensed while also playing on special teams as a kick and punt returner. The Eagles are hoping he can provide them with some secondary depth after their defense last year was highly disappointing.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com
Share:
4 days agoThe Cincinnati Reds have activated left-handed reliever Sam Moll (shoulder) from the injured list on Tuesday. Moll began the season on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement. The left-hander went 2-3 with a 3.03 ERA last season with the Reds in 70 games, including one start. By activating Moll, Cincinnati optioned right-handed pitcher Casey Legumina.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB
Share:
4 days agoJoey Bart will be starting at catcher and batting eighth for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Pirates acquired Bart from the San Francisco Giants on April 2 and with Pittsburgh, the catcher is slashing .313/.450/.750. Bart last played on April 21 when he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout against the Boston Red Sox. Bart will be catching left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter who's starting for the Pirates on Tuesday.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB
Share:
4 days agoOutfielder Estevan Florial is in the starting lineup and batting seventh as the designated hitter for the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday. Florian last played on April 19 and went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run. The left-handed hitter will be facing right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck, who is starting for Boston. This season, Florial is slashing .235/.316/.500 with two home runs and four RBI in 13 games for the Guardians.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB

4 days agoLos Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard (knee) was present at the morning shootaround ahead of Game 2 on Tuesday versus the Dallas Mavericks. Dealing with inflammation in his right knee, Leonard hasn't played since March 31 and remains listed as questionable for the second game of the Western Conference quarterfinals. The 32-year-old two-way superstar's status is trending in the right direction but appears likely to come down to a game-time decision based on pregame warmups. Should Leonard remain out, James Harden and Paul George would dominate usage for the Clips as even more appealing DFS options on Tuesday's three-game slate. The sharpshooting Amir Coffey would figure to remain in LA's starting lineup as well, but he averaged only 11.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 three-pointers in 28.9 minutes over 13 games as a starter in the regular season.--Joseph Barbati - RotoBallerSource: Ohm Youngmisuk - ESPN
Share:
4 days agoThe New York Yankees will be starting right-hander Marcus Stroman on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics. Stroman is coming off going 5.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits against the Toronto Blue Jays. Stroman is 1-1 with a 2.42 ERA this season, while at home is 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA. The right-hander is going up against an Athletics lineup that is slashing .204/.278/.339 which ranks 28th, 29th, and 26th in the majors.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB
Share:
4 days agoDetroit Tigers second baseman Andy Ibanez (hamstring) had a full workout at second base on Tuesday, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Ibanez has been on the injured list due to a left-hamstring strain, and the reports indicate the second baseman looked to be moving well. Ibanez played in five games for the Tigers this season before the injury and was slashing .267/.235/.267.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB

4 days agoThe New England Patriots currently own the No. 3 overall pick in this week's NFL draft. Unsurprisingly, many teams are interested in trading up to the third spot this year to take a quarterback of the future. The problem is the Patriots need a new franchise QB of their own after cutting the cord on Mac Jones this offseason. Also, according to a source, the Patriots are still waiting on a "serious" offer for the pick. So far, the offers they have received have been "laughable," suggesting New England is more likely to stick in the stop and take a young signal-caller to compete with veteran Jacoby Brissett this summer. USC's Caleb Williams is a near certainty to go first overall to the Bears, but the Pats are expected to be picking among LSU's Jayden Daniels, North Carolina's Drake Maye or Michigan's J.J. McCarthy if they stay at No. 3.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MassLive.com - Mark Daniels
Share:
4 days agoRight-hander Kenta Maeda is set for his fifth start of the MLB season as the Detroit Tigers are on the road to play the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. Maeda is coming off a terrible start against the Texas Rangers, as he went 2 2/3 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits, including three home runs. Maeda is 0-1 with a 7.64 ERA and faces a Rays lineup is slashing .242/.304/.356. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid Maeda in this one as a streamer.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB
Share:
4 days agoNew York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) wants to stick around in the NFL beyond 2024, but he's only signed with the team through this season. Rodgers, even at 40 and coming off a torn Achilles, should give the team a better chance to win than former first-rounder Zach Wilson, who was traded to the Broncos on Monday. But after Rodgers, the QB pipeline is dry. For the first time since 2017, the Jets don't have a young hope at the position. If the 2024 season doesn't go well, they could be looking at an organizational reset. General manager Joe Douglas sounds as if he wants to take a QB in this week's NFL draft, presumably on Day 2 or 3. Tulane's Michael Pratt and Florida State's Jordan Travis took pre-draft visits to the Jets.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN New York - Rich Cimini
Share:
4 days agoRight-hander Kevin Gausman will be starting for the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday in the second game of their four-game series against the Kansas City Royals. Gausman struggled to begin the year with his velocity, but in his last start against the Yankees, the right-hander had success, as he went five innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out six. Gausman is 0-2 with an 8.16 ERA this season and will face a Royals lineup that is slashing .237/.306/.405.--Cole SheltonSource: MLB

4 days agoKansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is still with the team and is participating in throwing sessions with quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Texas. Even though Toney was benched for the final three regular-season games and four more in the playoffs after his mistakes hurt the team earlier in the year, both general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid sound as if Toney is in their plans for 2024. "He is probably our most talented wideout now," Veach said. Along with mistakes, injuries have made it hard for Toney to stay on the field and consistent since being acquired in a trade from the Giants in 2022. The Chiefs are staying patient with the 25-year-old former first-rounder, though, especially with Rashee Rice facing a multi-week suspension for his involvement in a six-car crash.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher
Share:
4 days agoThe Cincinnati Bengals re-signed exclusive-rights free-agent quarterback Jake Browning to an undisclosed two-year deal on Tuesday on a contract through the 2025 season. Browning got his first real shot in the NFL last year with the Bengals when he was forced to replace Joe Burrow (wrist) after his season-ending injury. In his first nine games (seven starts) played in the NFL, he held his own and kept the Bengals competitive despite not making the playoffs, posting a league-best 70.4 completion percentage, 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The 28-year-old will return to being the primary backup to Burrow in 2024, so he won't have any real fantasy appeal unless Burrow misses time with another injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: ESPN - Adam Schefter

4 days agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt had a rollercoaster night in Monday's 5-3 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals. Pfaadt pitched 5 ⅓ innings while allowing two hits, and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts. The 25-year-old pitcher has been able to mellow out the runs in recent starts but still has an ERA of 4.97 in 29 innings pitched with 17 runs, four homers, six walks, and 27 strikeouts. He will be facing the Seattle Mariners in his next start which isn't a bad matchup at all, and he remains a solid starting option throughout all leagues with his strikeout capabilities--Shaun Evans - RotoBallerSource: ESPN.com

4 days agoThe Philadelphia Flyers and goaltender Ivan Fedotov have agreed to a two-year contract extension that carries a $3.25 million average annual value. The 27-year-old was drafted by the Flyers in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft but didn't join the team until late in the 2023-24 regular season after his campaign with the KHL's CSKA Moscow came to a conclusion. Fedotov struggled in his limited NHL time, posting a 4.95 goals-against average and an .811 save percentage in three appearances but was largely brilliant throughout his lengthy stint in the KHL. He posted a 2.37 GAA and a .914 Sv% across 44 games with CSKA Moscow this season and has been as good as a 2.10 GAA and a .931 Sv% across 32 outings back in the 2019-20 season--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: Darren Dreger

4 days agoNew Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier is set to undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday but is expected to be ready for training camp ahead of next season. The power forward said he also dealt with a double MCL issue and oblique injuries in what amounted to a down offensive season despite leading New Jersey in goal-scoring. Meier tallied 28 goals and 52 points on 207 shots on goal this season after recording 40 goals and 66 points on a hefty 327 shots on goal across 78 games last season. Fellow Devils forward Jack Hughes has also undergone shoulder surgery while he too expects to be ready for next season.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
Share:
4 days agoWashington Capitals defenseman Lucas Johansen is set to make his NHL postseason debut on Tuesday against the New York Rangers. The 26-year-old appeared in six regular-season games with the Caps this season, notching an assist in that time, but will get into a postseason contest for the first time in Game 2. "It's pretty exciting. I'm really looking forward to it," Johansen said following an optional skate Tuesday. "We're going to be ready to go tonight and I'm really looking forward to it. It's a pretty cool spot to be doing it for the first time." In addition to his six NHL games, Johansen also appeared in 22 AHL contests, noticing two goals and 12 points in that time. The Caps will look to even the series at one game apiece on Tuesday.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoToronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano recorded his third save on Monday in a 5-3 victory against the Kansas City Royals. Romano allowed one hit (one homer) with one strikeout in one inning pitched. He has now recorded three saves in four games that he has appeared in while recording a 4.50 ERA with three hits (one homer), and three strikeouts in four innings pitched. He may not be flashy with the strikeouts but he is recording saves and makes for a decent option for depth across all leagues. He is worth monitoring as he came off the injured list recently with elbow inflammation and has been a high-end closer in recent seasons.--Shaun Evans - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
4 days agoCarolina Hurricanes defenseman Brett Pesce (lower body) is questionable for Thursday's Game 3 of the team's first-round series against the New York Islanders. The veteran suffered a non-contact injury while attempting to join an offensive rush in the second period of Monday's Game 2 win. "We'll reassess," Hurricanes bench boss Rod Brind'Amour said on Tuesday. "We will find out more about Pesce today. So, I think we will wait and see for right now. Don't really want to jump the gun yet." The 29-year-old recorded three goals and 13 points in 70 games this season while adding 113 blocked shots and a plus-10 rating to his ledger. The Hurricanes stormed back to steal a 5-3 victory on Monday, increasing their series lead to 2-0 when the series switches to Long Island on Thursday.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoMiami Marlins left-hander Josh Simpson (elbow) will have surgery on Tuesday to fix ulnar-nerve neuritis in his left elbow. He's expected to miss three months before returning to play. The 26-year-old southpaw reliever will attempt to return in the second half of the 2024 season. The team's No. 26 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, suffered the injury in spring training and was trying to rehab it, but in the end, surgery was necessary. The former 32nd-round selection in 2019 out of Columbia University had a 4.42 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with 27 walks and 66 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings pitched over 28 relief appearances with Single-A Jupiter and Triple-A Jacksonville in 2023. Simpson gets a lot of whiffs, but he's also seen his walk rate rise in recent seasons.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Share:
4 days agoToronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander (undisclosed) could potentially return to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 3 of the first round against the Boston Bruins. The star winger has missed the first two games of the postseason with an undisclosed injury, but head coach Sheldon Keefe said he could return in Game 3. "There's not much happening for us today except for getting ready to travel, but it's a possibility for us tomorrow, I guess, is all I would say." Nylander tied a career-high with 40 goals this season and posted a career-high 98 points while skating in all 82 regular-season contests. The Maple Leafs tied the series with a 3-2 win on Monday night before the series shifts to Toronto on Wednesday.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
