P.J. Walker Secures Backup Role

Carolina Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker will be the team's backup signal-caller in 2021. Walker was competing with 2019 third-round pick Will Grier, who the team left off the 53-man roster Tuesday, meaning the team will proceed with just two quarterbacks in the meantime. The 26-year-old Walker made a name for himself in the XFL, posting the second-highest passer rating in the league across five starts and excelled under the tutelage of Panthers' head coach Matt Rhule at Temple before that. He wasn't overly impressive in his lone start filling in for Teddy Bridgewater in 2020, though he offers enough ability as both a passer and runner to be a solid backup.
