O.J. Howard 2019 Outlook: Sky-High Expectations
6 years agoTampa Bay Bucs tight end O.J. Howard will be one of the most coveted fantasy TEs in 2019. A promising sophomore season was cut short when he was placed on IR after Week 10 with an ankle injury. Howard was averaging 3.4 receptions and 56.6 yards per game. Those aren't flashy numbers but it did place him fourth among tight ends in average yardage to go along with five touchdowns in 10 games.
The big question is whether Howard will have a strong rapport with Jameis Winston all year long and if Bruce Arians' offense will favor the tight end. His teams have historically not targeted the position often, but then again he's never had a talented player like Howard to work with.
Howard is typically taken as one of the first six tight ends, right around the sixth or seventh round. If you miss out on the big three early, Howard is considered one of the next best to grab in order to have an advantage at the position. He isn't likely to put up numbers close to Ertz or Kelce as long as Mike Evans is around, so don't get carried away with your expectations, but his pass-first offense will do him many favors nonetheless.
