Nathan Eovaldi Looks To Regain Form
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi missed all of the 2017 major league season after Tommy John surgery. He has talent but has been erratic so far in his career. In 2014, he gave up a league-high 223 hits but only walked 43 batters in 199 2/3 innings with a record of 6-14. In 2015, he went 14-3 but his walks increased by six despite throwing 45 1/3 fewer innings. And in a 2016 season where he only pitched 124 2/3 innings, he allowed a career-high 23 home runs (only one fewer than his previous two seasons combined). He enters the spring as the Rays likely No. 3 starter and with relative job security in the short term after the injury by Brent Honeywell. He faces stiffer competition in the longer term when the handful of touted and anticipated young arms in the Rays system show themselves ready for the majors. He is best owned in deeper leagues until he gets some good starts out there to show us he is truly back to his full potential.
