Nail Yakupov Going to the KHL's SKA St. Petersburg
6 years agoFormer Colorado Avalanche and first overall pick of the Edmonton Oilers, Nail Yakupov, has decided to leave for the KHL. Yakupov has struggled to produce since scoring 31 points in 48 games during his rookie year in 2012, a struggle that culminated in playing for three different teams in three years and failing to score more than 23 points in any of those years. A career 9.5 percent average shooting percentage hints that he possesses some scoring ability, but his low shooting rate (1.86 shots per game) and lack of assists (0.21 assists per game) have plummeted his production. At only 24 years old, a return to the NHL may be feasible for Yakupov in the future, but at least for now he will be remembered as one of the biggest draft busts in recent memory.
