Michael Wacha Looks to Build on a Strong 2017 Season
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Michael Wacha will go into the 2018 season looking to build off of the best season of his career so far by fWAR. In 2017, Wacha posted a 12-9 record with a 4.13 ERA. He struck out 8.58 batters per nine innings while walking 2.99 in that same span. Despite the average ERA, advanced stats showed Wacha pitched really well last season. His FIP was 3.63 and his xFIP came in at 3.88, meaning he should improve a bit this season if everything else were to stay the same. 2017 was also Wacha's best full season in terms of strikeout rate and ground ball rate. He's not an ace in fantasy or in "real life," but Michael Wacha is a solid middle-of-the-rotation hurler who can likely be had in the later rounds of most fantasy drafts.
