Michael McDowell 'Has Work To Do' Heading Into Darlington on Sunday
4 months agoComing into the Cook Out Southern 500 race weekend, some people viewed Michael McDowell as a sleeper for a top-10 finish, especially considering he has accomplished that feat in three of the five races at Darlington with the Next Gen car. However, McDowell is going to have to overcome a lack of speed if he wants to even get close to the top 10 on Sunday evening. In practice on Saturday, McDowell was 24th-fastest on the speed chart and ranked 32nd-quickest out of 34 cars when it came to 10-lap average. He ended up qualifying in 31st-place for Sunday night's race, one of his worst starting spots ever in his career at this track. On Saturday evening, the Front Row Motorsports driver posted on X, "We have some work to do, but this [team] doesn't quit." Although he appears to be lacking speed heading into race day, McDowell could end up being a good Place Differential play in DFS contests if he can stay on the lead lap during the race.
