Melvin Gordon 2019 Outlook: Holdout Affects Outlook
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has a hugely varied outcome- due to the holdout. Before the holdout, he was the best option of tier two running backs. However, it now is uncertain how long the refusal will last- it certainly looks to be at least a few games at this point. Once Gordon returns fantasy owners should also consider his injury concerns, only playing in a full season one time since he entered the league, but when he is on the field he is one of the most effective players at the position. Originally expected to finish the 2019 season with over 1,000 rushing yards and double-digit rushing touchdowns and his passing receptions will bring him into the top of tier two discussion. Gordon should be able to catch around 50 passes for 500 yards and a handful of touchdowns. The true upside of his season will be the opportunity that he has in the red zone, given his usage. Gordon has been given the opportunity to be involved in 29% of all of the team's opportunities in the red zone- but only played in 12 games this season. If the Chargers are able to get into the red zone alot this season with the combination of Philip Rivers, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams then that gives Gordon a lot of opportunities to score this season. Given the opportunity, he is able to effective with Gordon scoring 11 of his 14 touchdowns in the red zone. His outlook is uncertain, but clearly when he is on the field he is used.
