Matt Shaw Continues To Show Power In Triple-A
6 months agoChicago Cubs infield prospect Matt Shaw had another big performance for Double-A Tennessee on Sunday. Shaw, the No. 42 prospect per MLB Pipeline went 2-for-4 with three runs, five RBI and a home run in a loss. Shaw's homer was his third in the last six games and he is now hitting .245 with 10 homers, 33 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 65 games. Shaw has been a big bright spot for the Cubs system this season and quietly has become of the of better prospects in all of baseball. The 2023 first-round draft pick has shown the ability to make consistent contact off both righties and lefties and also has some pop in his bat. Shaw was drafted as a shortstop, but he is likely to wind up at third base with Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner holding down the middle of the infield for the Cubs. The Cubs offense has been ugly this season and that could lead to the team considering Shaw more and more as the season goes on. Even if Shaw doesn't make his debut in 2024, there is a strong chance that he could be wearing blue pinstripes in 2025. He should be rostered in dynasty leagues and a name for redraft managers to remember heading into next season.
