Matt Schnell retired following a second-round submission loss to Cody Durden at UFC Vegas 97 on Saturday. Schnell had success in the first round as he landed some heavy shots and appeared to rock Durden early on. He ended up outstriking Durden 40-to-36 and had the momentum as Durden looked to be slowing down. However, to begin the second round, Schnell shot in for a bad takedown and Durden got ahold of his neck forcing Schnell to tap. Following the loss, Schnell put down his gloves and retired from the sport. The American finished his career with a record of 16-9 and one NC in the UFC and 6-7 and one NC in the UFC.--Cole Shelton
