The Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled pitcher Matt Koch to start against the Padres on Friday. With Taijuan Walker (elbow) going down with a season-ending injury, Arizona needs someone to fill the rotation spot. Koch has appeared in nine games at the major league level, pitching to a 1-1 record with a 3.15 ERA and a 13/5 K/BB ratio. While he hasn't started at the major league level since 2016, the Diamondbacks clearly see something in Koch to give him an opportunity. He isn't a recommended start, even against a weak Padres lineup, but perhaps if he shines he could earn his spot in the rotation full time.--Dan Fappiano
