Marco Estrada Hoping Mid-Season Slump Was A Fluke
7 years agoFantasy owners who invested in Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Marco Estrada were beyond delighted over the first two months of the 2017 MLB season. Estrada was among fantasy’s best pitchers at that time, compiling a 2.70 and 3.49 ERA in April and May, respectively. Then, the wheels came off. Estrada was hammered to the tune of a 9.11, 6.48, and 5.35 ERA in June, July, and August, before settling back down to 3.68 in September. While it’s tough to pinpoint exactly what led to Estrada’s struggles, it’s worth noting he relied more on his fourseam fastball and curveball, while cutting back on his cutter and changeup usage, during that time before using it at his early season rates again in September. If that’s truly the reasoning here, one has to believe the Blue Jays will push Estrada to lean on the parts of his repertoire that make him successful. If he does so, there’s no reason to think Estrada will be, at worse, an SP4 in your fantasy rotation with top SP40 upside.
