Marcelo Mayer Hits The Seven-Day Injured List
4 months agoBoston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer (hip) is headed to the seven-day injured list, according to SoxProspects.com. Mayer left Tuesday's game early due to this hip injury and was also kept out of Wednesday's lineup. Double-A Portland expressed that this stint shouldn't keep the top prospect sidelined for too long. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a big season at the Double-A level, holding a dominant .307/.370/.480 slash line with eight home runs, 38 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Last summer at Double-A, the former fourth overall selection in the 2021 MLB draft struggled across a 43-game stint, posting a .189/.254/.355 slash line. If he recovers quickly from this minor injury, he could earn a taste of Triple-A ball later this season. The infielder is considered the seventh-best prospect in all of baseball on MLB.com and should have a strong chance of reaching the major leagues next summer.
