Marcelo Mayer Activated Off Injured List
4 months agoBoston Red Sox prospect Marcelo Mayer (hip) has been activated off of the injured list and is set to rejoin Double-A Portland. Mayer was initially in the starting lineup for Portland but was scratched, so his return will be delayed. Mayer has been dealing with a hip injury he sustained over a week ago. Being scratched from the starting lineup as he was set to return doesn't appear to be the best sign for the 21-year-old but more news should be released later as to why he was scratched. Mayer has hit for an .850 OPS in Double-A this season and is the Red Sox top-ranked prospect in their system. Boston has a bit of a logjam at the major league level with their plethora of shortstops (Trevor Story, Ceddanne Rafaela and David Hamilton) so it may be a while before Mayer appears in the majors. However, fantasy managers in dynasty leagues will want to keep an eye on Mayer's progress in case injuries bump him up or if he is eventually traded to a team that gives him a quicker opportunity.
