4 months agoWashington Commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey could make an immediate contribution in the 2024 season. Selected with the 100th overall pick out of Rice University, McCaffrey figures to compete for the No. 3 wide receiver role in Washington this year. To add additional context to his role, McCaffrey will certainly operate behind Terry McLaurin. However, he has an early leg up on the slot receiver role over players like Dyami Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus, and Dax Milne. McCaffrey showed off positional versatility at Rice, and he's naturally the top option to operate out of the slot with the Commanders. He's physical and athletic, showing off an ability to win contested situations on short- and medium-range passes. He can also break tackles and occasionally make plays happen behind the line of scrimmage, such as end-arounds and screen passes. The big question is whether there will be enough volume for McCaffrey to have an impact in fantasy football. The Commanders have a lot of mouths to feed, with McLaurin, Dotson, and Zach Ertz in the passing game, plus Jayden Daniels, Bijan Robinson, and Austin Ekeler making plays on the ground. Still, McCaffrey should have no trouble earning the trust of his quarterback and coaches, putting him in a position to be a solid depth option in fantasy football. He enters the season ranking as a WR6, which means he's a value pick at his current ADP of 212 (84th among receivers). It wouldn't surprise anyone to see McCaffrey fill the void left by Curtis Samuel, who managed 62 catches, 613 yards, and four touchdowns en route to ranking as the overall WR42 in fantasy football last year.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller
