Luis Severino Torched For Eight Runs By Yankees
Luis Severino let up nine hits and eight earned runs over four innings of work in a 12-2 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday. He hit a batter, struck out two, and issued two free passes while totaling 97 pitches (57 strikes). The Yankees jumped on Severino early, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning before he could get the second out in the frame. He'd let up another run an inning later on an Oswaldo Cabrera double before unraveling again in the fifth and finally getting lifted. It was easily his worst outing of the season, but the 31-year-old has now coughed up 12 runs over his last ten innings and four or more in a start four times. He'll bring a 4.70 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into a road matchup with the San Francisco Giants late next week. Severino boasts the lowest strikeout rate of his career (17.2%) while affording batters a .295 xBA against him.
