Luis Severino Diagnosed With Rotator Cuff Inflammation

After being scratched from his Spring Training start on Tuesday, New York Yankees starter Luis Severino went for an MRI on his shoulder. The results revealed rotator cuff inflammation and the club plans to shut him down for two weeks before receiving an injection and resuming his throwing program. Team manager Aaron Boone said it was unlikely Severino would be with the team come opening day. Fresh off a contract extension, the Yankees are likely to play it safe with Severino, giving him as much time as needed to recover. In his absence the club could go with a free agent acquisition or opt to stay within the team, promoting a reliever into the rotation on a temporary basis.
