Logan Allen 2024 Player Outlook: Promising Rookie Campaign Set To Be Improve Upon
1 year agoLogan Allen doesn't have overpowering stuff, but that didn't stop him from having a very productive rookie campaign. In 24 starts (125.1 IP), Logan had a 7-8 W-L record, 3.81 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 119 Ks. Allen has had trouble with his control over the last two years. He had a 10.6% BB% in Triple-A (80.0 IP) and that manifested in the Majors with an 8.9% BB% last year. That contributed to an elevated WHIP, but so too did a .314 BABIP which should maintain in 2024. With a fastball that averaged 91.4 MPH, Allen needs to be more careful with his location which will likely ensure his walk-rate is never better than average. After striking out 346 batters in 265.1 IP, Allen may have room to improve his 22.2% K% from last year, increasing his fantasy value. Allen did have a 4.28 xFIP and 4.49 SIERA which suggests we see regression in his ERA moving forward. That will be linked to whether or not Allen can get more strikeouts and his projections have him with a ~4.20 ERA. Assuming Allen can make improvements in his sophomore campaign, there's potential to be a top-50 starting pitcher in 2024.
Guardians Option Logan Allen
8 months agoPitcher Logan Allen was optioned by the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday in a series of moves that also saw the team bring up pitcher Anthony Gose while designating pitcher Xzavion Curry for assignment. Allen was 8-4 but had an ERA of 5.56 and a WHIP of 1.56 over 92 1/3 innings over 19 appearances. Gose, a former outfield prospect of the Toronto Blue Jays, has not appeared in the majors since 2022. He was 5-4 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.304 WHIP in 35 appearances in Triple-A Columbus, recording 10 saves. Curry was 0-2 with a 5.84 ERA and 1.378 WHIP in seven games (four starts) with the Guardians. Neither of the moves offers much fantasy impact.

Logan Allen Called Up To Start Against Diamondbacks
8 months agoThe Cleveland Guardians recalled left-hander Logan Allen from Triple-A Columbus on Monday and optioned right-hander Connor Gillispie to Columbus in a corresponding move. It will be Allen's first start in the big leagues since July 6 with the Guardians still needing some starting rotation help with Tanner Bibee dealing with a shoulder injury. The 25-year-old Allen went 8-4 with a 5.67 ERA (5.45 FIP) and 1.55 WHIP with 76 strikeouts and 35 walks in 87 1/3 innings over 18 starts earlier this year before he was sent to the minors. In three starts for Columbus, Allen was better with a 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 12:7 K:BB in 16 1/3 innings pitched. The D-backs are sitting notable left-handed hitters Corbin Carroll and Joc Pederson on Monday, but fantasy managers should still consider Allen to be a pretty shaky streaming option in deeper leagues in his return to Cleveland's rotation.

Logan Allen Optioned To Triple-A, Spencer Howard Promoted
9 months agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. Since May 24, Allen has struggled with a poor 6.75 ERA, 1.69 WHIP, and 19:33 BB:K ratio across his previous 36 frames. In a corresponding move, the Guardians promoted 27–27-year-old right-hander Spencer Howard to the major league roster. Howard was traded to the Guardians for cash considerations from the Giants on July 5. Howard posted a 5.63 ERA, and 1.83 WHIP in 24 innings in the majors this season and could make occasional starts throughout the second half of the summer but should be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Logan Allen Being Skipped In Rotation
10 months agoThe Cleveland Guardians will start right-hander Nick Sandlin in their game on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals, while left-hander Logan Allen will be available out of the bullpen. Right-hander Tanner Bibee will start on Thursday in the series finale against KC. Sandlin, who has never started a game in four years in the big leagues, will be an opener and won't really be in play in fantasy as a streamer. The 27-year-old has pitched well this year out of the bullpen, though, sporting a 2.77 ERA and 0.77 WHIP with a save and 29 strikeouts in 26 innings of work. It makes sense why the Guardians wouldn't want to roll out Allen against their division rivals. In his last outing against the Colorado Rockies, the 25-year-old southpaw allowed seven earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings to raise his season ERA to 5.83 in 12 starts.
