Kyle Freeland Manages Mariners
6 years agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland didn't have a phenomenal outing on Saturday in Seattle, but he got Colorado to the sixth inning with only one run on the board for the opponents. Freeland walked four and allowed five hits in five labor-filled innings, but only one run scored and he racked up four strikeouts as well. Freeland hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in an outing in his last five starts, but only one of those starts has come against a team with an above-average offense this season (Texas has scored the 11th most runs in baseball). Riding a 3.18 ERA, Freeland's certainly got some potential, but his low strikeout rate of 7.18 per nine innings has been even lower recently, and his FIP is a full run higher for a reason. He's not a bad pitcher, but he is overperforming right now.
