Kyle Freeland Has More Real Life Value Than Fantasy Value
7 years agoKyle Freeland finally got his first crack at the big leagues in 2017, and he looked solidly mediocre. The former first-rounder hasn’t been great at any recent level in the minors (ERAs of 4.76, 3.87, and 3.91 at Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, respectively), and that carried over to the majors as he finished with a 4.10 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in his rookie year. Freeland loses value in the fantasy game by striking out few hitters (6.17 K/9), and his presence in Colorado doesn’t help his case any. Due to his low strikeout rate, most metrics predict that he’ll get worse in 2018, and it seems pretty reasonable. In the long run, Freeland’s pinpoint control will probably keep him alive and active in the majors, but he won’t have much value in the fantasy game.
