Kristaps Porzingis 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoAside from a heralded rookie in New Orleans, there could be no other player in the projected Top 50 of fantasy basketball selections that presents more of an aptly-named unicorn paradox than Dallas Mavericks power forward Kristaps Porzingis. The 7-foot-3 Latvian sensation missed the entire 2018-19 season as he recovered from a torn left ACL. He suffered that injury as a member of the New York Knicks, a franchise whom with he had firmly established himself as the No. 1 scoring option; fast-forward to ’19 and Porzingis is amongst a talented cast in Dallas. Aside from the obvious trepidations concerning his knee, it’s worth noting that Porzingis has appeared in just 186 games over his first four years in the league. Prior to his injury, he was beginning to scratch the surface of his lottery potential, having averaged 22.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game, while hoisting up 4.8 three-point attempts on a nightly basis. There is undoubtedly an immense ceiling as it pertains to Porzingis’ game, but he simultaneously carries a heavy risk into drafts this season. Owners are likely willing to reach early on Porzingis, hoping that he not only regains his old form, but that he far supersedes it.
