Khris Davis 2020 Outlook: Huge Power Potential, Lower Draft Cost
5 years agoKhris Davis was a letdown for fantasy owners last season, but is fully healthy now and has a chance to bounce back in 2020. Davis, who famously hit exactly .247 four straight years, saw his batting average crater to .220 while producing just 23 homers and 73 RBI in 2019. Davis hit at least 42 home runs and drove in at least 102 runs in the three years prior to last season. Davis’ season was impacted by a hip injury he suffered during a rare outfield appearance last May and while he only missed the minimum 10 days on the IL, he clearly wasn’t right after that injury. Davis’ lost over two MPH on his average exit velocity and had a barrel rate of just 10.1 percent. In the three years prior, Davis was in the top one percent of players with a barrel rate at a robust 17.2 percent and was in the top five percent in average exit velocity, so something was impacting his ability to make quality contact. Assuming Davis is fully healthy, he is one of the best sources of power in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts. His value varies by site based on positional eligibility but he is one of just a few players that has 45-50 homer upside that can be drafted outside the top-100 overall.
