Kareem Hunt 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook: Likely To Be Phased Out Of RB2 Role
Kareem Hunt was re-signed by his team to a 1-year deal after the 2024 season. Now, though, he faces much stiffer competition for his role. For starters, lead back Isiah Pacheco will be fully healthy, and could take a bigger share of the backfield work then he did after his return from his broken leg injury in 2024. Additionally, the team signed RB Elijah Mitchell in free-agency and drafted tailback Brashard Smith in the 2025 NFL Draft. Smith in particular has monstrous receiving upside, as he's a converted WR and put up fantastic reps on film in his final collegiate season. Hunt ranked near bottom of the league in missed tackles forced per attempt and yards after contact per attempt as well as rush yards over expectation per carry. So it's easy to see why Pacheco, Mitchell, and Smith could easily relegate Hunt to a reserve role. Even if Mitchell isn't retained by the team, Smith is highly talented and should take a prominent passing down role by midseason. Just draft Smith instead of Hunt in all your fantasy football leagues. You won't regret it.
