Justin Jackson Strong In Starting Gig
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie running back Justin Jackson carried the load on Thursday night against the Chiefs. Jackson was called on to be the starter after first- and second-string backs Melvin Gordon (knee) and Austin Ekeler (concussion) were sidelined with injuries. Jackson was comfortable in the backfield and carried the ball 16 times on the evening for 58 yards and a touchdown. He also chipped in 27 receiving yards. Jackson shared the backfield work with Detrez Newsome, but Jackson was clearly the primary back. It’s unlikely Jackson will get another start since Gordon was so nearly able to go in this game, but even if he works as the secondary back, Jackson has proven he’s ready to contribute in the NFL.
