Jose Tena Heating Back Up At Triple-A
6 months agoAfter a red-hot May in which he slashed .376/.424/.587, Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Jose Tena cooled off to begin the month, slashing just .217/.294/.283 over the first 10 games. Over the last four games, however, the left-handed hitter has gone 9-for-18 (.500) with a double, three home runs, six RBI, and seven runs scored. That gives the 23-year-old a .293-11-47-38-7 line on the season with a .359 wOBA and 109 wRC+. Tena had a late-season call-up in 2023, and he seems poised to get another shot in 2024 with the way he is swinging the bat. He played nine games at shortstop in 2023 when he was with the Guardians, but also filled in at second base (2), third base (1), and DH (1), so they have some flexibility in how to deploy him. Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias haven't done much with the bat, so if Cleveland wants to stay atop the AL Central and give the offense a boost, they may give Tena another chance sooner rather than later.
