Jose Miranda 2023 Player Outlook: Solid Floor But Questionable Ceiling After Rookie Season
2 years agoMinnesota Twins infielder Jose Miranda is going into his second season after coming onto the scene in 2022 and impressing. He hit .268, slugged 15 home runs, stole one base, scored 45 runs, and drove in 66 over 125 games. Still, Miranda projects as a pretty boring hitter in fantasy baseball moving forward. He only struck out 18.8% of the time and always had low strikeout rates in the minors, but he doesn't hit the ball exceptionally hard (55th-percentile average exit velocity in 2022) and has little speed, posting a 25th-percentile sprint speed. There's no reason Miranda can't be a consistent 20-homer guy, but that's likely his ceiling. The 24-year-old hardly barreled balls this season with a 6.2% rate, and his 109.4 MPH max exit velocity isn't that impressive. He also plays in a tough division to go yard in with many big outfields. Miranda's going to hit in a solid lineup but won't be much more than a 70-runs and RBI player, as Steamer projects (64 runs, 71 RBI). In real life, the Puerto Rican is a quality young bat but is just above average in four categories and a nonfactor in stolen bases. His ADP suggests otherwise, though, as Miranda's going around pick 155, ahead of more intriguing third basemen like Matt Chapman (162 ADP) and Ke'Bryan Hayes (165 ADP), as well as Anthony Rizzo (156 ADP) and Rowdy Tellez (178 ADP) at first base.
Jose Miranda Expected To See Plenty Of Playing Time
1 month agoMinnesota Twins first baseman/third baseman Jose Miranda is expected to see plenty of playing time, even with Ty France slotting in as the everyday first baseman. Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic noted that Miranda has "abundant" playing time at the hot corner and at the designated hitter spot. Last season, Miranda saw most of the work at third base (78 starts) but did see time at DH (27 starts) and first base (13 starts). Earlier in the offseason, it was reported that France is expected to be the everyday first baseman. After struggling during his first two MLB seasons, Miranda enjoyed a strong third year as he held a .284/.322/.441 line with 28 doubles and nine home runs across 121 games. Fantasy managers should expect Miranda to alternate starts at the hot corner and the DH spot with Royce Lewis and also occasionally see time at first base when France is out of the lineup. Given his strong play last season, he does have value in deeper formats, even if he is not guaranteed an everyday spot in the lineup.

Jose Miranda Hits 10-Day Injured List
6 months agoMinnesota Twins first baseman/third baseman Jose Miranda (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday afternoon, which will sideline him for the remainder of the 2024 season with the Twins eliminated from the playoff picture. Miranda was scratched from Thursday's lineup with a back injury and remained sidelined on Friday evening. In a corresponding move, the Twins promoted infielder Michael Helman. Miranda had a solid 2024 campaign as he posted a .284/.322/.441 line with nine home runs. This was a significant improvement over the .211 AVG he held last season. The 26-year-old was one of the best hitters in the sport during July as he held an incredible .439/.477/.634 slash line. Fantasy managers should view Miranda as a depth corner infield option heading into the 2025 campaign.

Jose Miranda Scratched From Thursday's Lineup
6 months agoMinnesota Twins third baseman Jose Miranda (back) was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to lower back tightness, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. He was replaced by Austin Martin. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Minnesota starting nine in their final series against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend, as Miranda may remain sidelined. After posting a disappointing .211 AVG last season, the 26-year-old enjoyed an excellent bounce-back campaign this summer as he sits with a solid .284/.322/.441 slash line. Miranda was one of the best hitters in the sport during June and July, as he boasted a stellar .367/.415/.578 line. If Miranda remains out, fantasy managers should expect Brooks Lee to see an increase in opportunities at the hot corner.

Jose Miranda Absent On Monday
7 months agoMinnesota Twins infielder Jose Miranda is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The right-handed slugger is having a breakout season with .292 batting average with nine home runs and 49 RBI across 117 games. However, Miranda has struggled to the tune of a .229 average against left-handed pitching. In his absence, Ryan Jeffers will serve as the designated hitter while Royce Lewis covers third base against left-handed Matthew Boyd. Fantasy managers who have Miranda rostered should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch.
