Jordan Walker to Begin Rehab Assignment Thursday
Jordan Walker (wrist) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday, manager Oli Marmol announced. The Cardinals haven't determined a location yet. Walker landed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation May 31 (retroactive to May 29), continuing a brutal start to the season for the former top prospect. He hit an ugly .215/.273/.310 with three home runs, 23 RBI, and a career-worst 33.1% strikeout rate in 172 plate appearances before going on the shelf. However, the 23-year-old did raise his OPS from .498 to .583 between May 14 and his latest appearance on May 28. The Cardinals have recently given the lion's share of playing time in right field to Alec Burleson, who's hitting a solid .296/.341/.426 with five HRs and 20 RBI in 182 plate appearances.
