Jon Gray Shines In Major League Return
6 years agoIn his first start back in the majors, Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jon Gray posted his longest start of the season by going 7 1/3 innings against the Mariners. Gray had been toiling at Triple-A after struggling to avoid big innings in the majors, but his return was triumphant as he held a playoff contender to just one earned run en route to his eighth win of 2018. Gray is considered the ace of the Rockies staff, but he's struggled with keeping mistake pitches down, resulting in a large amount of extra-base hits and hard-hit balls when he would drift up in the zone. His strikeout and walk numbers have been phenomenal, so if he can get that bit of his game under control, he can be a top-20 pitcher in the second half of the season. First, he'll have to prove he's got it again though.
