John Metchie III Catches Lone Target In Preseason Debut
1 year agoThe Houston Texans selected wide receiver John Metchie III in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. Metchie, though, could not take the field in his rookie season after being diagnosed with leukemia in July of last year. Just one year later, though, the wideout is back on the field. In his first career NFL action in Thursday's preseason game against the New England Patriots, Metchie caught one pass for five yards. After one year away from football, people might forget just how good the former Alabama product was. In 2021, the rookie caught 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. It was nice to see Metchie on the football field again and catching passes. With Nico Collins and Robert Woods likely locked into the top wide receiver spots in 2023, Metchie will fight with Noah Brown and Tank Dell for the WR3 job this season. It might be tough to trust the 23-year-old wideout in fantasy football this year due to Houston's crowded wide receiver room. But he definitely has a ton of potential in this offense and should be featured more as the season goes on.
