John Kelly 2019 Outlook: From Hype to Heap
6 years agoThere is nothing to like about John Kelly in 2019. For all of the hype he had coming into the league in 2018, he is now just in a heap on the sideline. At least until he is cut from the team. Even with lingering arthritis in Todd Gurley's knee, John Kelly is not a viable fantasy option. The Rams not only re-signed restricted free agent Malcolm Brown, but they also drafted Darrell Henderson after trading up in the draft. These are not the actions of a team who is happy with the player who ended up being their third running back in his rookie season.
Playing in only four games and receiving only 24 carries for 74 yards is not a sign of promise for the young Kelly. However, it is a sign of things to come, as he likely he will not be on the team in 2019. If he is, he will be unlikely to see the field. If he isn’t, he may find a home on a running back needy team as a backup. Even this best-case scenario for Kelly does not leave a lot to desire. Whether it be in redraft leagues or dynasty leagues, Kelly is not an asset you should want on your team. Unfortunately for him, he has the makings of another in a long line of players who come into their rookie seasons with immense hype only to go down in flames soon after.
