After having been let go by the San Francisco Giants and in light of recent news regarding Robinson Cano, the New York Mets signed infielder Joe Panik Friday for infield versatility. The New York native spent the first six seasons of his career with the Giants, earning an All-Star selection and winning a World Series. In 103 games this season, he was batting just .235 with 27 RBI. In conjunction with the Panik move, the Mets designated infielder Adeiny Hechavarria for assignment. Panik, 28, joins the hottest team in baseball, now just half a game out of the second Wild Card spot, with a pivotal series against the Nationals beginning Friday night.
