Jean Segura 2021 Fantasy Outlook: A Versatile Infield With Modest Power/Speed
4 years agoIn a shortened 2020 season, Philadelphia Phillies second baseman/third baseman Jean Segura was able to prove his value with the Phillies. While his average was down (.266 compared to 2019's .280), his on-base percentage (.347) and slugging percentage (.422) increased ever so slightly. His OBP could be a result of the walks (23) in 54 games. To compare, he had just 30 free passes in 144 games played in 2019. Since joining the Phillies, Segura has slashed .276/.329/.421. At age 30, Segura has secured himself an everyday role in Philadelphia. Although the team re-signed Didi Gregorius, Segura figures to take over full time at second base with young third baseman Alec Bohm ticketed for the hot corner. With a full season on the horizon, 2021 looks to give a motivated Segura an opportunity to provide some modest power and speed at the top of the lineup. The two-time All-Star is a fringe top-25 second baseman in fantasy and can also provide double-digit homers and steals, and he's also eligible at shortstop in some formats.
