Jayson Tatum 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoBoston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum enters his third NBA season in 2019 and much is expected of the 21-year-old, including major steps forward as a scorer. Tatum’s second NBA season saw him average 15.7 points per game on 45 percent shooting while also adding in six rebounds per contest. But with Kyrie Irving, Al Horford, and Terry Rozier gone, Tatum will need to step up that scoring for the Celtics to succeed. The team did bring in point guard Kemba Walker, but they can’t rely on Walker to do everything. Tatum struggled after the All-Star break last year and his Team USA stint this offseason ended poorly, so there’s plenty of cause for concern. But he’s still a young, talented player whose prime is years away and who should continue to get better, and fantasy owners should expect him to score somewhere in 17 or 18 points per game range. Tatum’s upside makes him a solid pick if you can get him sometime at or near the 50th overall selection in fantasy drafts, though it’s likely some people fall too in love with his upside and grab him too early.
