Jalen Richard 2018 Player Outlook: Third-Year Back Looks To Carve Out A Role In Passing Game
6 years agoOakland Raiders running back Jalen Richard enters his third NFL season looking to carve out a role in a crowded backfield headlined by veterans Marshawn Lynch and Doug Martin. Richard has yet to make much of an impact in the NFL and saw his workload dwindle significantly in 2017. If there's one area where Richard can make an impact, it is in the passing game. Richard has caught at least 27 passes in each of his two seasons, averaging 37.5 targets per season over that span. Neither Lynch nor Martin are known as elite pass-catchers, which opens the door for Richard to slide in as the team's third-down back if he can impress new head coach John Gruden. Richard doesn't need to be drafted in 12-team leagues but he could be a hot waiver pickup if he earns a sizable share of the team's passing game work once the regular season starts.
