J.J. Barea 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoDallas Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea was chugging along at an extremely efficient pace through 38 games last season before a torn Achilles put all of that to a halt. Now 35, Barea faces not only a crowded backcourt in Dallas, but also the uphill task of getting back to form after a debilitating injury. While he averaged 19.9 points and 10.1 assists per 36 minutes prior to the injury, all of his appearances last season came as a reserve. In addition to the emergence of Jalen Brunson, Delon Wright will also now be competing for backcourt reps. Add all of those elements together and Barea doesn’t boast strong fantasy prospects heading into the start of the 2019-20 campaign. He missed the Mavericks’ first handful of preseason games, so until he at least returns to action, he can safely be slotted down Draft boards in all formats.
