Ian Anderson Makes First Rehab Start After Tommy John Surgery
6 months agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson (elbow) made his first minor-league rehab start since having Tommy John surgery in April of 2023. Anderson made the start for the Florida Complex League Braves and pitched two innings. While brief, the outing was about as good as one could have hoped for, as the righty retired all six batters he faced, four of which came via strikeout. Once a promising young arm who looked like he would be in the Braves rotation for years to come after a strong debut (1.95 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 41 K's in 32 1/3 innings) and a couple of stellar postseasons in 2020 and 2021 (1.26 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 40 K's in 35 2/3 innings), Anderson was optioned to the minors to begin 2023, making one start before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He's a former third overall draft pick, and if he can return to some semblance of his pre-2022 self, he could be a valuable pitcher for the Braves and for fantasy managers at some point later in the season.
