Zack Wheeler Needs To Stay Healthy In 2018
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler is coming off an up-and-down 2016 where health was unfortunately a detriment once again. Making his return after missing all of 2015 and 2016 due to Tommy John surgery (and the complications therefrom), for a portion of 2017 Wheeler was actually the Mets’ second-best pitcher. But, the unsuspected high workload caught up to him, and he struggled and eventually missed the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his throwing arm. His final stat line tallied a 5.21 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 8.44 K/9, and 4.17 BB/9 across 86.1 innings pitched. It’s possible Wheeler starts the year in the bullpen, so fantasy owners can’t necessarily count on him gaining starts right out of the gate. Either way, health has not cooperated with Wheeler throughout his career, and until it does, that will be a bigger question mark than his role or effectiveness.
