Hagen Smith Dealing with Elbow Soreness
Hagen Smith (elbow) is dealing with elbow soreness. Scott Merkin of MLB.com noted that the southpaw is expected to begin playing catch soon. His MRI was also clean and did not show any structural damage. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team will likely increase his workload slowly. Through the early part of the campaign, Smith held a strong 2.10 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP across 25 2/3 innings at Double-A. During this stint, Smith struck out 42 batters but served up 20 free passes. The former fifth-round pick from last year's MLB Draft made his professional debut with High-A last season and logged seven 2/3 innings with a 3.52 ERA. Given this injury, fantasy managers should not expect Smith to contend for a Triple-A debut until the second half of the campaign.
