Gerardo Parra Could Be a Late Round Hero
7 years agoGerardo Parra had an interesting 2017. He finished with numbers that were mostly forgettable and unownable outside of his .309 batting average, and he missed a month with a strained quadriceps in the middle of the year. However, from May 1 through August 18, he hit .367 with seven home runs, 47 RBIs, and 33 runs scored in just 196 at-bats. Over the course of a full season, hitting anywhere near that well could easily have resulted in a campaign that topped 20 homers, 100 RBIs, and 90 runs scored. That’s tempting for an outfielder who’s still just 30 years old, especially in deep and five outfielder leagues. Unfortunately, the bad news waits on the horizon in the forms of Raimel Tapia and David Dahl. Parra, Tapia, and Dahl join Ian Desmond in battling for two regular outfield spots and first base. On top of that, Brendan Rodgers is a top-five infield prospect waiting in the wings who could play his way into the lineup. All these young threats currently have Parra unranked in many draft lists, but if he can win one of the starting outfield jobs out of spring training, he could still provide some solid value for a tiny investment.
